The narrator in the short story A Shawl for Anita is the middle child among the three children of Anitas mother. She is an older sister to Anita. In the story, the narrator displays qualities of being intimidated to her sister Anita as she long noticed their mothers special love and treatment to her. As the story develops, she changes from a character range in hatred towards Anita into a loving and understanding sister to her. Lastly, the end of the story portrays the narrator as she knew better now why their mother loves Anita more and she as well, learned to love Anita that much.
